I wish people understood that the vast majority of ‘bloggers’ on Tumblr have no idea what the fuck they’re talking about. Most of the discourse on this hellsite is just well-intentioned people parroting what they’ve read in popular text posts written by ignorant, narcissistic people who use their extremely limited, flawed, and often warped knowledge to elevate their social status. And since we’ve somehow decided that follower counts & the amount of notes on posts are reliable indicators of what is true/right/progressive, and since this whole website works like a goddamn cult where any semblance of disagreement with the currently accepted dogma is enough to get death threats, it just creates a vicious cycle where people’s ignorance and fear of being ostracised feeds other people’s ignorance and fear.

The entirety of mainstream Tumblr “feminism” & “activism” is based on virtue signaling, peer pressure, black-and-white thinking, misusing concepts, diluting theory, twisting scientific research, and spreading misinformation, lies and half-truths. People constantly use terms they simply don’t understand–terms whose meanings have been diluted and twisted so much that hardly no one knows where they come from, why they were created or what they actually mean.

Having a lot of followers doesn’t make a person smart or knowledgeable. Something isn’t true or right or progressive just because a lot of people say it is, because everyone seems to believe it, or because it’s written in a snarky tone. Please stop using Tumblr as your main source of information on feminism or other social justice issues (or anything, really). Stop giving so much power to random people on the Internet. Learn to think for yourself even if it’s uncomfortable. Don’t be afraid to analyse and question everything you read or hear. And please check sources instead of

believing everything you read.

I think that Tumblr can be a great introduction for young teens getting familiar with social justice, but after that and especially as you move into adulthood it’s important to educate yourself outside of Tumblr beyond just popular text posts with actual academic texts on the issues. Getting all of your activism from popular texts posts on Tumblr can cause serious misinformation to be spread and stifle critical thinking.

forgive yourself. whether you fail a test, eat too many cookies, say the wrong thing, fail a class, or spend a whole day in bed — learn to forgive yourself. the next day will be better. the next day will be a day closer to your next success. you can do it.

Hey, reminder that one of the reasons humanity has been able to flourish is because we formed societies and helped support each other. Complete independence and self reliance is a myth to try to get you to buy more things. Please reach out. Please connect yourself. There is no reason you have to do things alone.

i hope despite the overwhelming social pressure being constantly put on us, we continue to keep our sense of individuality. we are never obliged to think like the mainstream media. let us never forget who we are when nobody is looking. i hope we become the person we want to be, not the person the society forces us to be.

i wish there wasn’t such a stigma around being proved wrong, bc it’s a part of life, no one can be right all the time. if we didn’t feel as much shame about it i think a lot of things would change a lot faster

we all need to practice saying “I hadn’t thought of it like that” “I hadn’t seen it that way before” “I must have misunderstood the first time I heard about it” “if I had known those facts I wouldn’t have thought like I did”

Tips on getting motivation back?

spoiledspice:

MOTIVATION IS A MYTH AND WILL NOT GET YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO BE.

Practice discipline and dedication. Know what you want and be willing to put in the work, even if you hate it.

Relying on motivation will leave your ass on the couch watching Netflix for 5 hours because you “don’t feel like studying/exercising/working” but dedication will tell you “bitch, get it together and get going!”

you have this idea in your head that the only time you’re worthy of being loved is when you’re at your best. you’re still worthy of being loved when you’re at your lowest. you’re still worthy of being loved when you don’t want to go on anymore. you are still worthy of being loved even when you don’t love yourself. you are a human and therefore always worthy of being loved and don’t you fool yourself into thinking otherwise.
