Skating Ensemble | c. 1860s
• • •
By the 1860s, ice skating became the go to winter past time for the middle and upper classes in Europe and America. Those who could afford it had specific skating ensembles that featured looser cut jackets for more range of motion. This jacket features beautifully colored contrasting embroidery that would right be at home in a print by Currier & Ives.

Someone once said to me, “I hope the pain eases soon.” It struck me as the purest blessing that had ever been offered over my head – I hope the pain eases soon. It’s so gentle, so kind, so hopeful. So to everyone who’s hurting: I see how hard you’re trying, and I hope your pain will ease soon.
