the hardest part about teaching latin to elementary school kids is that there are very few resources out there for very young students, which makes it difficult since when i first learned latin most of the words were about blood and death so i have no idea what is actually appropriate to teach to young latin students

early reading for modern foreign languages: this is spot. see spot run. run, spot, run! spot is running to the house.

early reading for ancient foreign languages: this is spot. see spot kill. kill, spot, kill! spot is conquering the barbarians.

The greatest video since “The History of Japan”

#this goes through so many stages of sounding like#the speaker has#anything from#an italian accent to a spanish accent to a german accent to a swedish accent to an icelandic accent xD#to my ears at least#aka how english would sound if it made sense like the rest of us#english can’t even blame it on ‘having a lot of vowel sounds’ cause swedish has a similar amount (or arguably more)#the difference is that swedish has a proper system and Rules#for when the letter becomes a different sound#in swedish how it’s written is what you get it’s straight forward#english is just put together with duct tape and a prayer (via @erasedcitizen2)

The problem with the English writing system is that hasn’t been renovated in something like 400/300 years. I’m not sure since my books are in another country, but still it has been a long time since someone touched it while the spoken language evolved. And a lot.

Like the Great Wovel Shift (the main culprit of the phonetical inconsistencies) happened between the 1350 and the 1700. Before then, English was spoken as it was written. Easy peasy.

i think the reason so many ppl on tumblr latched onto “y’all” is because a lot of ESL bloggers were getting tired of not having a 2° person plural pronoun

Maybe it’s because most of us are southerners who grew up with “y’all”, fam

fairly sure “world population that’s not from the US > southerners” but i might be wrong in my calculations
